SAN JOSE, CA, JULY 16, 1992 - Accurite Technologies Inc. today announced the release of a revolutionary disk drive diagnostic package, the Drive Probe® Advanced Edition. Using a unique combination of hardware and software, the Drive Probe Advanced Edition harnesses the power of an IBM® PC compatible computer to provide computer dealers and service professionals with the first comprehensive diagnostics package for testing 3.5" Macintosh® drives, in addition to other drives found in PC compatibles, including 4 MB drives. Additionally, the Drive Probe Advanced Edition offers software publishers and duplicators the first simple means of ensuring the integrity of their manufacturing equipment, with support for the most comprehensive list of non-standard duplicator drives available.

Using state of the art HRD™ High Resolution Diagnostic diskettes, and a proprietary design Accurite Universal Floppy Controller installed in a PC, Drive Probe Advanced Edition allows users to thoroughly evaluate the performance and check the condition of 5-1/4-inch (360Kb,1.2Mb) and 3-1/2-inch (720Kb, 1.44Mb, 2.88Mb) standard or dual speed floppy drives, 800Kb and 1.4Mb Macintosh drives, as well as popular software duplication autoloader drives and their electro-mechanical diskette loading systems. It can also be used to assist in making adjustments and repairs to floppy drives which need servicing. Drive Probe Advanced Edition eliminates the need to use an oscilloscope or other bench test equipment when testing or aligning drives.

The Drive Probe Advanced Edition base package comes complete with a HRD test diskettes for testing the various models of 3.5" drives, a program diskette, one Universal Floppy Controller (single slot board), one Drive Personality Module 1 (external board) and assorted drive interface cables, power plugs and fuses. An optional Bit Shift Module card plugs into the Universal Floppy Controller board for window margin and asymmetry testing, a feature previously available only with expensive bench test equipment. Optional HRD test diskettes are also available for use with 5.25" 360 K and 1.2 MByte drives.

"The Drive Probe Advanced Edition puts computer dealers, repair depots and other service professionals in the unique position of being able to easily test or align not just PC drives, but now Macintosh or duplicator drives as well", explained company president Brad Baker. "In addition to its significant benefits as a tool for troubleshooting system problems, this creates a lucrative business opportunity for service organizations and at an affordable price. Previously, capabilities near those available with the Drive Probe Advanced Edition required a significant monetary investment in various pieces of equipment."

Aggressively priced, the Drive Probe Advanced Edition sells at approximately one-quarter to one-third the price of competitive standalone bench test equipment which offer only a partial feature set and are not able to test Macintosh drives.
